Defence — Shakti UCAV
Origins and strategic context of India's combat UCAV programme.
The Shakti programme addresses a critical operational requirement identified by the IAF: the need for a survivable, long-endurance unmanned platform capable of penetrating deeply defended airspace and executing precision strike, electronic attack, and ISR missions.
Shakti has a flying wing configuration optimised for reduced radar cross-section, with internal weapons carriage for two 500 kg precision-guided bombs or four Astra Mk1 air-to-air missiles. The aircraft is powered by a single Kaveri K-9 turbofan and has a maximum speed of Mach 0.95 and an unrefuelled range of 3,000 km.
